Vermont College of Fine Arts’ Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design offers advanced design students the opportunity to merge creative practice with critical inquiry. Employing our pioneering immersive model with unparalleled individual faculty mentorship, the program makes it possible for students to develop lifelong creative practices and gain invaluable insight into the expansive discipline of design. The MFA in Graphic Design at VCFA holds that graphic design is defined not by any specific medium, but by a common goal of communication through visual media and other forms.

VCFA is known for the guidance its faculty generates from diverse artistic perspectives as well as for its academic rigor and flexibility. This course of study is built specifically around each student’s emerging interests and provides an alternative to the “one-size fits all” structure of many master’s programs being offered today. The program compels students to think critically about social, ethical, historical, formal, and philosophical implications, as these skills are essential to the graduate experience. As a result, students are equipped to realize a deeper artistic vision in their work, seeing it within larger historical and professional contexts.
