The College of Visual Arts was a comprehensive, four-year, private art and design college in Saint Paul, Minnesota, accredited by NASAD and the HLC. CVA was a selective undergraduate college with an enrollment of over 200 students. The campus was located in Saint Paul’s historic Ramsey Hill and Summit Avenue neighborhoods.

Their mission was to provide a collaborative environment that focused on individual student development by fully integrating the study of the liberal arts and the visual arts. They cultivated a worldview that recognized the value of art and design in promoting pride in place and responsible citizenship.

Graphic design at CVA embraced traditional and new media practice. The curriculum offered students a unique three-semester immersion in the art and craft of typography and three semesters of applied graphic design practice. Students studied new and emerging digital media with a strong focus on interactive usability.

Since its closing in June 2013, John DuFresne, CVA’s graphic design department chair, essentially moved the program to neighboring Concordia University, St. Paul.
